In the history of the Special Olympics there are only two countries, who had the honor of organizing this special humanitarian and sporty world event for the second time: the United States and Austria. After the events in 1993 in Salzburg / Schladming and in 2017 in Graz / Schladming / Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria is already the winner in this respect.

"Heartbeat of the world" - with this motto will be held the Special Olympics World Winter Games in 14-25. March 2017 for people with intellectual disabilities. More than 3,000 athletes from 100 nations around the world take part in this sporting event. The location of the event will be the provincial capital, Graz; the Alpine Skiing World Cup venue, Schladming, Rohrmoos and Ramsau am Dachstein. Nine different sports taking place in the competition: speed skating, floor hockey, floorball, ice stock sport, figure skating (Graz), alpine skiing, snowboarding (Schladming-Rohrmoos), ski-running and snowshoeing (Ramsau am Dachstein). The opening ceremony will take place in the Stadium of Schladming Planai and the closing ceremony in the UPC Arena in Graz.
