Every year in early December, the traditional Krampus play is presented in Öblarn’s market square. Here, children don’t need to fear birch whippings as in the past, because our folk spectacle does not convey cruelty. Spectators can engage with the old traditions "without fear." Mystical figures such as the "Schab" (a person wrapped in straw who rhythmically cracks a whip), the "Graßteufel" (a wood demon in a broom-like costume), and the "Flechtenmann" (a wild man covered with long wooden sticks) create a frighteningly beautiful atmosphere for the audience. The quarrel between summer and winter is also performed.
